Route Builder: How do I add directions in the Route Builder

It is possible to include turn-by-turn directions for the self-drive legs of your itinerary's route in the Printable Itinerary. By default these directions are automatically generated Google directions, but it is possible to manually edit them if needed.

This article will explain how to manually edit directions in Wetu's Itinerary Builder, and how to ensure that the directions are included on the Printable Itinerary output. This article provides instructions on Self Drive directions only, for instructions on how to use the Route Builder Step generally please refer to this article.

Getting Started

In Wetu's Itinerary Builder, navigate to Step 3: Route Builder.

Once you are in the Route Builder, click on the Directions button at the bottom of the page.

A pop up will appear listing the Self Drive routes in your itinerary. Select the pencil icon next to the self drive route for which you want to manually edit the directions.

There are three possible levels of Self Drive directions; full, partial and new. We will explain below when you would use each one and how to edit them.

Full Directions

In the drop down menu next to Full Directions, you can select from existing complete directions between two locations.   Full Directions are usually found from an airport to an accommodation. It is less likely that existing Full Directions have been set up from accommodation to another.

The directions that have been loaded will be listed on the right hand side of the screen. To edit these, click in the textbox of the direction you would like to change and edit the text. Alternatively, you can delete that portion of the route completely by clicking on the trashcan icon. Use the + and - symbols on the map to to zoom in and out as you plan your route directions.

Once you are happy with the routing, click on the Update Directions button. To cancel click Not Now.

Partial Directions

This option would be used if an accommodation has loaded directions to a certain point, and you add directions from that point to the other accommodation. In this case, the directions that Ellerman House has loaded from their location to the N7 motorway are represented by the solid orange line. The directions that Google has generated from the N7 motorway to Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa are represented by the broken orange line.

As we can see, there is a more direct route between the two locations. To create the most direct route for your client, you will need to either remove or edit some of the directions by typing in the text boxes or deleting by clicking on the trashcan icon. Use the + and - symbols on the map to to zoom in and out as you plan your route directions.

Once you are happy with the routing, click on the  Update Directions button. To cancel click Not Now.

New Directions

This option can be used if you need to create a new set of directions between the two locations. The directions that load on the right hand side are Google's default directions between the two locations, but you may know of a more direct or better route.

You can edit the route by dragging and dropping the blue line to a new location - when you mouse over the blue line, a white circle will appear and if you drag this to a new location, the route will update as well as the directions on the right. After you have set your routing, the written directions in the text boxes on the right should be edited to be more specific.

Once complete, click on the  Update Directions button. To cancel click Not Now

A prompt will appear. Click Yes to save the directions for future use on other itineraries that also use these accommodations (they will appear in Directions). Click No to only use the directions in this itinerary.
